Rainbow Wren of Hope

I thought I would explain the story behind my new range of “Rainbow Wren of Hope” fused-glass bird sun-catchers and jewellery. I know I am always interested in hearing how a new idea is born and developed.

Firstly I had been mulling over the idea of adding the gorgeous little wren to my British Garden Bird range for years now. The wren is an iconic bird and I have had many requests from loyal customers to add one to my collection. I found him a difficult bird to achieve in glass as the colour is not so attractive therefore the silhouette is the important design aspect and I just found the upright tail tricky. Also what I had come up with just did not fit in with the style of my garden bird range. All my attempts just never seemed right.

Anyway, a customer sent me an image of this gorgeous Fairy Wren and we oohed and aahed over the colours. This is where the idea for rainbow and wren came together. I had already been making a range of rainbow jewellery, so the symbolic rainbow was on my radar anyway. I could do a wren that was not linked to my British bird range. It was the birth of my Rainbow Wren. I also thought it sounded really good. The name “Rainbow Wren” had a lovely ring to it.

I headed into my home studio, experimented and came up with this little guy below. I had not been feeling well, it was the 10th of March, the precurser to lockdown and I felt I needed to do something to cheer me up. Birds always make me smile.

I shared my new design on my Facebook page which you can see below and the response was huge.

“Lots of people have been feeling just like you and rainbows symbolise a lot to many of us too. Would love one of these in some form. Think it would be very meaningful to have a precious little rainbow wren of hope for many people. They would be popular. Maybe with sparkly backing or some lustre it could be jewellery item?”

The “Rainbow Wren of Hope” was born.
